Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing Approves Institute for Caregiver Education Practical Nursing Program

Chambersburg, PA (PRWEB) March 19, 2008 -- The Institute for Caregiver Education is proud to announce that a two-year long project designed to create a part-time Practical Nursing Program in the south western part of Pennsylvania has been approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. The program is the first of its kind in the state that is designed specifically to meet the needs of working professionals who want to obtain their Practical Nursing license.

"We are very excited to offer this program in a part-time format," says the program's director, Myrna Eshleman, RN, BSN, MScN. "We have heard time and again that there is a need for part-time training, as many individuals who want to obtain their practical nursing license cannot as they have families to support and must work full time." Creating an opportunity for individuals to advance in their nursing careers in a way that was achievable outside of the context of a full-time program was of particular importance to the Institute team.

The Institute for Caregiver Education, a member of the Chambersburg business community for the last 15 years, has always been dedicated to providing education that is accessible and affordable to caregivers at every level. In 2005, the Institute sought to broaden their service offerings by filling the community's need for a part-time Practical Nursing program.

Admission to the program will be highly competitive, and will result in a limit of 36 students enrolled in the first class, which is slated to start on July 8th, 2008. The program will encompass a 24-month period of time in which students will progress through four levels of training, each six months in length. Classes will be offered both during the day and in the evening, to accommodate the working schedules of the students enrolled. Tuition is $8,500 for the two-year program.

To accommodate the space required for an onsite practical nursing program, the Institute for Caregiver Education is breaking ground in Chambersburg on a new building to be completed in June. The opening day week of classes will coincide with an open house at which time the Institute will open its doors to the community in an effort to celebrate the organization's growth.

The mission of the Institute for Caregiver Education's Practical Nursing Program is to provide an accessible, affordable and innovative curriculum to prepare interested individuals to become competent entry level practical nurses. The faculty believes the opportunity to pursue this education should be available to every qualified applicant regardless of race, color, ethnic origin, creed, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status or qualified disability. The faculty also believes that the PN School will provide the clinical skills and knowledge needed to develop leadership skills under RN supervision in managing care of clients across the lifespan.
