AbleNet to Show Proven Special Education Curricula and New Transitions Skills System at 63rd Annual Association for Supervision and Curriculum Develop
St. Paul, MN (PRWEB) March 7, 2008 -- Promoted as "education's premier professional development event," the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Annual Conference is now 63 years strong, and is considered an important event for administrators and educators.
"2008 marks AbleNet's first appearance at the ASCD Annual Conference, and we're looking forward to being part of it," said AbleNet Marketing Associate, Mary Kay Walch. "ASCD is an organization that believes in ongoing professional development, and professional development is something we take great pride in building into our curricular programs. The success of program administrators, special education teachers, and students is at the heart of every AbleNet product."
For nearly 25 years, AbleNet has designed, developed and manufactured assistive technology products that encourage participation and support learning among students with disabilities. Today, AbleNet is also known as the first company to development research-based curricula specifically designed for all students in special education.
ASCD Conference Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about AbleNet curricula, including "Play & Learn," a 12-month preschool curriculum that integrates motor skill development with communication, socialization and cognitive skills; "MEville to WEville," an early literacy and communication curriculum developed to meet the unique needs of elementary students with disabilities; and "Star Reporter?," a comprehensive special education curriculum for elementary and secondary students with access to general education content and visible achievement outcomes.
While AbleNet curricula can be purchased separately, many of the nation's largest school districts, including Los Angeles, New York City, Fort Lauderdale and Philadelphia, have chosen to make district-wide purchases of "Play & Learn," "MEville to WEville" and "Star Reporter" as part of their comprehensive solution known as the "AbleNet Student Achievement Program," or ASAP. The ASAP package blends special education curricula with assistive technologies, ongoing professional development, and district-wide support to deliver measurable student progress. ASAP is considered significant within the special education community because each curriculum is research-based and supports accountability mandates in NCLB & IDEA.
To further support school districts, AbleNet also offers a financing plan that allows for purchasing the entire AbleNet Student Achievement Plan, including curricula, technology, and support, under manageable terms.
ASCD Conference-goers will also be among the first to experience AbleNet's Next? Transition System -- a user-friendly and intuitive program that helps administrators and teachers meet state standards and federal guidelines for providing transition skills programs and services to all special education students. The Next? Transition System is a district-wide solution that truly simplifies the process of performing assessments, identifying and targeting IEP goals, teaching essential skills, and tracking progress over multiple years.
And last, but certainly not least, AbleNet will put the spotlight on an exciting new literacy product introduced at the start of the '07 - '08 school year. Already named a "Teachers' Pick" by Scholastic's "Instructor" magazine, "Weekly Reader AbleNet Editions" provide scientifically proven content in the form of weekly publications specifically designed for elementary and secondary students. AbleNet Editions makes the teaching of state standards easy and effective.
"With its focus on curriculum and professional development, ASCD has much in common with AbleNet, and because this particular conference is offering sessions on various types of scientifically-based research, we're hoping administrators and educators will stop by our booth to learn more about our k-12 research-based curricula for special education classrooms," added AbleNet's Mary Kay Walch.
About AbleNet: AbleNet offers a complete line of assistive technology products, including communication aids and access aids, such as switches, and wheelchair mounting devices for students who require physical supports. The company is also recognized for developing research-based special education curricula that meet state and federal mandates. Located in Roseville, Minnesota, AbleNet is an ESOP company that sells its products through a network of distributors in more than 50 countries. AbleNet's products and programs have been used in tens of thousands of classrooms nationally for more than 20 years. For more information, visit www.ablenetinc.com.
