Cappex.com Answers the Question 'What Are My Chances?' with New College Search Calculator

Highland Park, IL (PRWEB) February 28, 2008 -- Cappex.com today unveils the "What Are My Chances?" Calculator, a new tool that improves the way high school students search for colleges. The unique tool instantly lets students know their chances of getting accepted to more than 2,000 colleges and universities.

"When it comes to college search, (http://www.cappex.com) no question burns more on the student's mind than 'What are my chances?'" said Mike Moyer, president of Cappex.com, LLC. "Our tool helps guide students by giving them a better understanding of how well they fit a particular college's historical admissions profile."

The tool was extremely popular during beta testing with students performing more than 300,000 college searches with the Calculator.

Here's how it works: The "What Are My Chances?" Calculator uses an algorithm based on more than 200 data points collected from a student's Cappex profile, historical college admissions data and other information collected from colleges. Students receive their chances on a scale ranging from "very high" to "very low." The Calculator also indicates reliability based on how much information is available for analysis. For instance, the Calculator is less reliable if a student does not provide a GPA in their profile.

The Calculator was designed in direct response to the needs of students and high school counselors who want to manage expectations when choosing where to send a college application. Colleges routinely publish statistics about their admissions history, but the data can be difficult to analyze and understand. Cappex provides an easy-to-use, sophisticated tool for instant analysis to aid in the college search. (http://www.cappex.com)

"While Cappex isn't in the business of discouraging students from applying to any college, we do want to help set expectations," Moyer said. "College admissions departments always make the final decision, and they often include factors that aren't apparent from the numbers alone."

The Calculator has been tested with thousands of individual student records that include admit/deny information to specific colleges. The outputs were checked against opinions of professional guidance and admissions counselors.

"We want colleges to participate in making the Calculator the best it can be," Moyer said. "We invite schools to participate by providing feedback so we can make improvements if necessary."

The tool is available to students, free of charge, on Cappex.com.

"The Cappex.com 'What Are My Chances?' Calculator helps students feel more confident and in control of the college admissions process," said Moyer. "It is an important part of the puzzle."
