Academy of Art University's Renowned Epidemic Film Festival Returns to Historic Castro Theatre
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 4, 2008 -- Hollywood industry luminaries, Bay Area VIPs and budding student filmmakers will gather at the historic Castro Theatre on April 11, 2008 for the much-anticipated Epidemic Film Festival. The festival, sponsored by the Academy of Art University, showcases work by future of Hollywood -- along with even more of the special presentations that made this renowned festival an unforgettable evening last year.
This year's Epidemic Film Festival will distinguish alumnus Chris Milk, one of the hottest music video directors in the industry, as the Alum of the Year. Chris Milk was named Director of the Year at last year's Music Video Production Association Awards. He has directed videos for some of the biggest names in music such as "Touch the Sky" (Kanye West), "The Saints are Coming" (U2 and Green Day) and "Gone Daddy Gone" (Gnarls Barkley).
The Academy is honored to have veteran comic actress Megan Cavanagh (best known for her role as "Marla Hooch" in the classic film A League of Their Own) hosting the Festival. Over the years, Megan has appeared in a dozen feature films, in addition to numerous television and stage roles. Megan currently stars as "Chris" on the hit LOGO network show Exes & Ohs.
Hundreds of students vie to be featured finalists in categories such as narrative, documentary, music video, commercial and experimental film. A jury of Hollywood elite selects the top students who earn a coveted spot in the screening line-up. Last year's festival attracted an audience of 1,400 people and filled the theatre to capacity. Emceed by Emmy award-winner Chad Lowe, the night was charged with high energy and creative talent.
The Academy bestows three of the top student winners with the opportunity attend the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) in Las Vegas where they can network with industry VIPs. Last year, Steven McGlothen, the producer of I, Robot, personally recruited student Alexandra Overton. She has also been hired to work on a Fox feature production, Ticket to Ride.
Succeeding the Academy Awards, the Epidemic Film Festival represents a diverse range of talent that is a crystal ball into the future of groundbreaking film and television entertainment. Academy of Art University students explore a variety of genres using the cutting-edge technology available to them.
The Epidemic Film Festival is open to the public, and seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis (early arrival is recommended). The festival will take place at the Castro Theatre on Friday, April 11, at 7 p.m. The Academy of Art University is proud to give the public the opportunity to view cutting-edge work by a new generation of filmmakers.
