Capella University Faculty Member Named President-Elect of the Texas Mental Health Counselors Association
Minneapolis (PRWEB) December 12, 2007 -- Dr. Christopher Lucies, a core faculty member with Capella University (www.capella.edu), an accredited,* fully online university, has been named president-elect of the Texas Mental Health Counselors Association (TMHCA). Dr. Lucies, who teaches for the CACREP (the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) counseling education and counseling studies programs in the online university's School of Human Services, was elected in September. He will serve a three-year term: one year as president-elect, one year as president, and one year as a consultant to the TMHCA board.
In his new role, Dr. Lucies will be responsible for organizing board meetings, organizing the association's yearly conference, mentoring board members, consulting on ethical issues, public speaking, and advocacy. Specifically, Dr. Lucies hopes to work toward refining the LPC licensure title in Texas to better reflect the roles of mental health counselors. He also plans to work toward increasing membership (especially among graduate students), and create opportunities for all members to become involved within the association.
"I'm excited and humbled by this opportunity to serve my fellow mental health counselors in Texas. It's my goal to do everything I can to help them be more effective in their work, and ultimately better serve their patients," Dr. Lucies said. "What I have learned in my role as a faculty member at Capella University proved to be instrumental in helping me achieve this position."
Capella University is the first and currently only online university to receive accreditation from CACREP for two master's degree specializations.
