Monterey College of Law Achieves Record Bar Pass Rate

Seaside, Calif. (PRWEB) November 25, 2007 -- Monterey College of Law's Class of 2007 achieved a 63% pass rate on the July California Bar exam in results announced by the State Bar of California. "We are extremely proud of this talented and hard working group of graduates," said Mitch Winick, Dean of MCL. "We expected great things from this class, but this result represents our highest pass rate in ten years and is almost double the statewide average for California accredited law schools."

Nineteen of MCL's 23 first-time applicants for the July Bar exam were from the Class of 2007. "Twelve of the nineteen were first-time passers, which is an exceptional effort considering that the California Bar exam is the most difficult in the country," explained Winick. "In fact, the failure rate in California is almost fifty-percent of those who sit for the exam each year." It is common for applicants to take the exam multiple times before they pass. The State Bar reported that the overall pass rate for all applicants for the 2007 July Bar exam was 56%, which was about five percent higher than previous years.

MCL's overall first-time applicant pass rate on the July exam, including graduates from all previous years, was 52% in comparison to the 32% state-wide average for California accredited law schools. "This result places us in the top tier of state-accredited law schools," said Bard Mansager, president of the Board of Trustees and a graduate of MCL. "Although this is no surprise to those of us who know the school, it is exciting to achieve the state-wide recognition."

The members of the MCL Class of 2007 who will be sworn in as new lawyers are Chandra Marie Apperson, Emily J. Buchbinder, Ronald L. DeHoff, Molly Elisabeth Erickson, Lori Lynne Espinoza, Tracy Lee Henderson, Megan Kaneko Reilly, Russell Christian Scott, Mark Daniel Sullivan, Emily Jeanne Trexel, Jason Nels Vogelpohl, and Lindsay Nichole Warnes. They will be joined by three graduates from prior MCL classes: Martin Trent Chandler, Angela Marie Johnson, and Charles Edward Knight, Jr.

MCL will host a group swearing-in ceremony on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 4:30 p.m. in Courtroom 10 of the Monterey County Courthouse in Salinas. The law school also welcomes local graduates of other law schools who passed the bar and who would like to participate in the ceremony. The ceremony is open to the public.

Accredited College Degrees Hold More Value
Accredited college degrees can help to advance your career and are in general worth more than non-accredited degrees. The education community set up certain standards that must be followed in order for a university or college to be considered a reputable learning institution. As a result, many jobs will not accept a degree from applicants that are not accredited college degrees. A degree that doesn't have this accreditation is often not taken into consideration for showing qualification and certification for certain job positions. In fact, many people feel that anything but accredited college degrees is a waste of money and that the degree is not worth the paper that it is printed on.
