The School of Automotive Machinists, SAM, Makes the Finals as First-Time Entrants in the 2006 JEG's Engine Masters Challenge
HOUSTON, TX (PRWeb) March 2, 2007 -- Representatives from The School of Automotive Machinists, SAM, announced that Team SAM's engine produced the third highest peak number in the finals and placed sixth overall as first-time entrants in the 2006 JEG's Engine Masters Challenge. The team now readies for the 2007 challenge with two entries -- fueling excitement at the school.
Over the last four years, the JEG'S Engine Masters Challenge has invited more than 40 engine builders to compete in the newest form of motorsports- "Dyno Racing." Rules regarding engine size change each year, in order to challenge entrants to design and build an engine that generates power from 2500-6500 RPM. Over this range, the unique scoring system combines the average horsepower and torque of each engine. This year the cubic inch chosen was 434. This allows both big and small blocks to compete heads up.
SAM Instructors and students were excited that the school was selected to compete in the challenge and immediately began exploring combinations that would produce a good average number and fit within the established rules. Following some discussion, it was decided that a Cleveland headed small block Ford would fit the rules very well.
The team arrived with the engine at World Products in New York and managed the first part of the challenge well. The SAM engine produced an average score high enough to advance to the finals. And in the finals their engines produced the third highest peak number. After tear down and inspection, everyone at the school was excited with a sixth place overall average as a first-time entrant.
The School of Automotive Machinists and Team SAM were invited back to participate in the 2007 JEG's Engine Masters Challenge. As SAM Instructors and students contemplated this year's rules, a Cleveland headed small block Ford came out on top again. However, the Chevy students were in an uproar. To keep all students happy, the School decided to have two entries in the 2007 challenge, a Ford team and a Chevy team.
Founded in 1985 by Linda and Judson Massingill, the School of Automotive Machinists was established to provide machine shop owners with a knowledgeable network of skilled machinists. Owner of Northwest Engine & Supply since 1979, Judson recognized the challenge in finding and retaining quality machinists. The best employees stayed long enough to learn the business and then left to open their own place.
Judson realized the value of having a place where a machine shop owner could find trained help. So, he began teaching the science and skill of machining that he had acquired from his longtime involvement in building and testing winning engines for stock car racing, drag racing, offshore powerboats and numerous other motorsports venues. The School of Automotive Machinists was founded to fill a need and a void in the automotive industry.
SAM received accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology, ACCSCT -- which recognized the school as an institution that maintains a standard of excellence at or above the prescribed national standards for quality education. The students are taught by experienced instructors and trained on industry standard machines.
Today graduates from the School of Automotive Machinists go on to work for race industry leaders like Penske Racing, Warren Johnson Enterprises Inc., Dale Earnhardt Inc., Hendrick Motorsports, John Force Racing, Roush-Yates Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing, and Jenkins Competition just to name a few.
For those seeking a career in the racing industry, SAM can put you on the fast track to achieving your dreams.
