Professional Development Resources Adds 40th Online Continuing Education Home Study Course

Jacksonville, Florida (PRWeb) January 31, 2007 -- Professional Development Resources (www.pdresources.org/prweb), a national provider of psychology and social work CE since 1992, has announced the addition of its 40th online course titled Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Part I: Overview and Dietary Supplements. The course, which emphasizes evidence-based literature in the evaluation of complementary and alternative methods, is intended to be a quick and easily accessible update for busy clinicians.

Licensed psychologists, social workers and counselors in most states are required to maintain their clinical proficiencies by completing a specified number of hours of continuing education coursework each license renewal period. The purpose of mandated CE is to assure the public that licensed professionals are competent to provide services that meet or exceed current standards of care. Online courses are an important resource professionals can easily access between clinical appointments.

“We continue to seek out the most recent scientific literature on a very broad range of clinical topics in order to keep practicing psychologists, social workers, and counselors at the top of their game” says Leo Christie, PhD, CEO of Professional Development Resources. “Our ultimate goal is to be a leading provider of evidence-based CE coursework that is timely, accessible, and relevant to the day-to-day practice of busy clinicians.“

In service to this goal, Professional Development Resources is pleased to announce the release of its 40th online CE course titled Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Part I: Overview and Dietary Supplements. The 3-credit-hour course, which can be completed online at any time by any professional with access to a computer and the internet, summarizes the most recent information available from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM).

The first section offers an overview of complementary and alternative medicine, including biologically-based systems, mind-body medicine, manipulative and body-based approaches, alternative medical systems, and energy therapies. The second section addresses herbs and other dietary supplements, including an overview of dietary supplements, research on their efficacy and safety, research highlights, and sources of information.

Psychologists, social workers, and counselors need to be conversant in complementary and alternative methods their clients may be using to alleviate symptoms of mental conditions. The course newly released by Professional Development Resources will be an accessible and definitive update to help them stay current.
